Collective Worship
Our school week begins with a whole school (Years 1-6) Collective Worship where the key focus is the Gospel reading from the previous day. This is led by Mrs Prescott but the pupils are highly involved in planning and delivering the messages and prayer shared during these times. On a Wednesday we have a whole school hymn practise before the end of the school day when we all gather together in prayer and song. Friday’s conclude our school week together with a Celebration assembly after lunch. Various pupils are acknowledged for effort, hard work and demonstrating our 5 R’s throughout the past week. On a Tuesday and a Thursday when we do not gather as a school each class has their own Collective Worship, this is planned and led by the pupils themselves using our Collective Worship boxes.
Foundation Stage carry out their own collective worship daily in many different ways. We have our focal point near our carpet area which we use to display items relevant to what we are exploring at the time. Children are familiar with daily prayers which include our morning prayer when we first gather together, a lunchtime prayer before we eat and an end of the day prayer as we gather together before we finish our day. We will have quiet and reflective time throughout the week which often involves turning off the lights and listening to calming music whilst looking at pictures or a PowerPoint relevant to the topic we are exploring. We have lots of group discussion within the class as part of collective worship rather than recording anything physically. As the children become more confident during the year they may lead the prayers during the day. Our main focus in Foundation Stage for Collective Worship is about quiet and reflective time and being together.
