Welcome my lovely Year 1’s.
On this page, you will find all of this week’s learning including English, maths, phonics and other non-core subjects. I know this is a very strange time and to do your school work at home can be difficult however, just know that we need to keep safe and we are so proud of you all. Stay safe and work hard!
English
To kick start the term, we will be looking at an exciting new text called ‘Major Glad, Major Dizzy’ by Jan Oke. A fascinating, photographic storybook which is based on the true story of some old, hidden toys which were lost and discovered under the floorboards of a house. Please see attached a PowerPoint with each day of the week and the tasks the children should complete. The worksheet for Tuesday 5th January is attached also.

Phonics
Phonics is extremely important in your child’s development and learning so please make sure you are completing phonics every day to ensure they are being exposed to their sounds. Children should learn a sound over 2 days. Firstly practising it then applying the sound in writing. Children are encouraged to segment (break apart) and blend their words slowly. Encourage them to do this every day 🙂
Year 1 follows the scheme ‘Letters and Sounds’ in which we work our way through Phase 2-Phase 5 over the year.
