Phonics Screening Check
In June, year one children will sit the phonics screening reading check. The check assesses your child’s phonetic knowledge. They will sit the reading check with a member of our teaching staff and read 40 words using their phonetic knowledge.
The check is a combination of real words (e.g; blot, brick) and nonsense (pseudo) words (be.g: blat, bruck).
The national expectation has been 32 in recent years but that could change in 2016.
We report whether your child has achieved the national standard or not in their annual progress report in July.
All children who do not reach the required national standard have to resist the check at the end of year 2.
