Apps for key stage 1
* Some of the apps listed below are free whilst others may cost so please ensure you check this before downloading.
Phonics with Letter Lilies – nice game with 3 levels to choose. A phoneme is said and children have to click on the correct grapheme on the lily.
twinklP3Pop – a simple but nice matching game where children have to pop the balloons with the same phoneme as shown at the top of the screen.
Hairy Letters – a good hands on app where the children choose a letter and then use their finger to practise forming the letter by copying writing over it.
Check Phonics – an app from Pearson Education. A nice interactive way to practise segmenting and blending where the children can record their own voices and listen back before checking their answer.
Forest Phonics – a lovely app for phase 5 practise. Nice characters used, with abit of humour throughout. Children have to listen to the word and then choose the phonemes to make this word.
Twinkl phonics – This is a fantastic app that gives information on the ‘phases’. It includes games for the children to play as well as practicing high frequency words.
Tic Tac Toe phonics – Some quite tricky phonics work it is like noughts and crosses, but you need to answer phonics questions first!
Word Bingo – Collect ‘bugs’ by touching words as they are spoken.
Great for reading practice!
Ignite writing – An APP from the wonderful Pie Corbett where children can shuffle characters, plot and setting to help them create their own stories.
Jumbled sentences3 – ‘Jumbled Sentences’ series is designed for beginners to improve their writing skills. This app offers an easy and interactive way for beginners to learn the word order in a fun way
Percy Parker – Percy makes learning times tables fun!
Math Party – A 2 player game where numbers need to be touched in the correct order from smallest to largest. The great thing about this game is that each player can be playing on a different level.
Maths Bingo A real favourite with Year 1! Collect ‘bingo bugs’ by answering questions (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) at 3 different levels.
Mr Wolf – This is an app for telling the time. It covers o’clock, half past, quarter to and quarter past.
Math Splat – The levels on this can be changed from easy (addition to 20) to hard (addition using 100’s) It also covers subtraction, multiplication and division.
My Times Tables – a nice app where children can practise reciting their times tables as well as playing games and having a 100 square times table overview.
Pizza1 – a nice friendly app where children are shown amounts of different pizzas and have to choose the correct fraction to represent these.
Amazing Coin – 7 interactive games about British coins learning counting, paying, making change, matching and etc.
Mystery Math Town – Help a friendly and curious little ghost rescue the fireflies that are hidden in Mystery Math Town. Players use math skills to unlock rooms and passages on their enchanting journey.
