March - Number Hunt Challenge

March - Number Hunt Challenge

Numbers are all around us! This month, your challenge is to search your home for numbers in everyday objects and explore how they are used. From food packaging to clocks, books, and labels, see how many different ways you can find and work with numbers.

Younger children can spot and record numbers they see, while older students can break them down into place value, number facts, or even create calculations using them. Can you find a way to make a target number using different objects around your home?

🔢 Example:
If your target number is 50, you might find:

  • A cereal box that says 50g – “50 is 5 tens”

  • A clock showing 10:50 – “50 minutes past the hour”

  • A pack of crisps costing 50p – “Half of £1”

  • A book on page 50 – “What’s the next multiple of 10?”

For an extra challenge, set a time limit and compete with a family member to see who can find the most creative examples!

January - Spot the Pattern

January - Spot the Pattern

Look around your home to uncover repetitive patterns in everyday objects! From the tiles on your kitchen wall to the stripes on a cushion, patterns are everywhere. Younger children can identify and describe the colours, shapes, or designs they see, while older students can explore the mathematical structure of these patterns, such as symmetry, rotation, or tessellation.

Try recreating a pattern you’ve found using paper, pencils, or even art apps on a tablet.
